Effective Home Schooling Goals
Formulating home schooling goals doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming. Having a good balance of long term goals and short term goals can help both you and your children enjoy home schooling more as you see their progress in little and big ways. I have developed several pages for you to use as you think through making goals for your home school, with questions to think about and ideas to get you started making some practical goals for your child. Take a look over the following pages.
Step 1: Think through your long term goals.
Once you have a handle on what your ultimate goals are, especially in terms of how academic or career-oriented they are, you will have a much better handle on knowing what home school curriculum will meet your goals. Reading Have Some Long Term Home Schooling Goals? is a great place to start. Step 2: Think through your short term goals. Do you want to give your child roots or wings now? Read more about this key concept and how to make real changes that will help you see more success in the short term goals you set at Making Short Term Home Schooling Goals Work For You. Step 3: Re-evaluate and think through what is realistic. Understanding Myths of Successful Home Schooling Goals can help you as you make re-evaluating your goals a part of your on-going home schooling journey. Wondering how to prioritize your goals? Read Help For Prioritizing Your Home School Goals to find real world help for real world kids. I need to re-read this article myself every so often! Don't forget that goals don't have to be just for academic subjects. Read Character Education and Home School Goals to find out how these same principles can apply to helping see progress in character education, too. Step 4: Turn your goals into a concise home school vision statement. This single step has helped our family more than any other. Read our example and find out more how to write your home school vision statement. (I'm working on posting this soon.) Take a few minutes over the next few days to go through these steps, preferably with your spouse. If you are ready to really start enjoying your home school experience, and want to see some real success -- no matter how small -- going through these few steps of creating goals for your home school will pay off.
